I was born and raised in the Seattle area. I studied molecular biology at Claremont McKenna College, where I engineered DNA polymerases to synthesize modified nucleic acids relevant to aptamers and nucleic acid-based therapeutics.
After college I spent two years as a postbaccalaureate research fellow at the National Cancer Institute in Rockville, Maryland, characterizing pancreatic-cancer GWAS variants with RNA-seq and gene-regulatory-network inference. That work is where I moved from the bench toward computation.
I am now a PhD student at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, in Peter Koo’s lab, working on machine learning for regulatory genomics. The Research page covers what I work on now, along with my publications.
Writing
Sometimes I write about a wide range of topics that strike my interest (and might strike yours as well). Highlighted writing is the curated way in; all writing is the full archive, sortable by several fields. Each piece carries an importance rating out of 10, which is my own subjective sense of how much it matters rather than anything calibrated.
About this site
Built with Quartz, a static-site generator for digital gardens. Source on GitHub, hosted on Cloudflare Pages.
The gear icon at the top right of every page opens a settings panel: text zoom, page opacity, background art, metadata fields, and a few other things. Everything there is stored locally in your browser and never leaves it.
The pixel-art landscapes in the background come from a handful of itch.io artists and shift with the time of day and season. Full credits are on the site art page, where you can also browse the collection and pin any scene as your background. For a full-bleed view of just the art, see the background showcase.
